Earlier this year, we were asked by Rebecca Agent - Contracts Manager at FCC Shipham, Thetford - to look at the problems she was having with her weighbridge.
Other companies had suggested that the weighbridge neededa complete load cell overhaul where all 6 cells would be replaced at a cost of over £13,000. Rebecca decided to seek a second opinion from STC Solutions Ltd
Both Clark Skates (M.D) and Peter Ord (Service Director) visited site to determine whether all or any of the load cells were damaged and suggested that 1 cell needed immediate replacement but that the main problem was the cleaning of the weighbridge.
Rebecca commissioned a local crane company to lift the weighbridge deck whilst cleaning took place and then STC Solutions replaced the faulty load cell and arranged reverification in conjunction with Trading Standards.
We advised that at the Shipdham site we supply some T rubber pieces to go round the weighbridge pit which allowed less debris to fall into the pit. We also held a load cell in stock so down time was minimised. Rebecca also took the decision to place the weighbridge under a maintenance contract with us.
At the same time, at another of the FCC sites, at Swanton Road Norwich, a load cell fault was identified. None of the companies who had been called in so far could take the second man-hole cover off an Avery 5152 pit-mounted weighbridge, meaning that the replacement of the load cell at that end would need breathing apparatus and a very detailed risk plan.
STC Solutions sent one of our newest engineers-Harry Scott who managed to free the man-hole cover and then we subsequently supplied a reconditioned load cell and again had the weighbridge weights and measures approved.
Since then, we have also included this in a maintenance contract.
